For those who enjoy unvarnished, emotional and very passionate Indian romance films, we have just what you are looking for in Tere Ishk Mein, which you will want to add to your watch list. In the late 2025 release, the movie created a lot of buzz for putting back together a great creative team, which also featured a very different and unanticipated lead cast.
I have always been a great fan of films that bring to life the energy and chaos of small-town India. My sister and I would watch Raanjhanaa in the theatre years ago. We were so into it, fully absorbed by its intense energy and its soulful score. When this spiritual sequel came out, we were jumping out of our skin with excitement.
The Visionary Director and Creative Team
At the head of Tere Ishk Mein is master storyteller Aanand L. Rai. Renowned for his unique ability to present very complex emotional stories in the heartlands of India, Rai once again puts his stamp on this project.

The screenplay and story are written by his long-time partner in crime, Himanshu Sharma. This team has brought to us some of modern Hindi films’ most iconic characters, and in this project, they haven’t held back. The film is produced by Colour Yellow Productions and T Series Films and is a large-scale production, which we see as having a budget of around 95 crore.
The Star-Studded Cast and Characters
The film has a great group of actors, which includes veteran performers and dynamic lead stars.
- Dhanush as Shankar: Dhanush plays the lead as a young man who is at the height of passion and also very frustrated with what he is going through in terms of unfulfilled love.
- Kriti Sanon as Mukti: Kriti takes on the role of Shankar’s college classmate and love interest, in which she does a great job at bringing depth to the character, which we see grow from youthful charm to great emotional struggle.
- Priyanshu Painyuli as Ved: A central character who leads the dynamic.
- Supporting Ensemble: The film features top-notch actors, including Prakash Raj (as Raghav Gurukkal), Ravi Kishan, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and Vineet Kumar Singh.
In the setting of the ever-present and enigmatic background of Banaras, the plot is of Shankar and Mukti, who see their college love story take a very sharp and painful turn. When Mukti chooses to leave for another man’s marriage, it sets off a chain reaction of rage and internal struggle in Shankar, which we see play out as a study of how love can at once heal and also completely destroy a person.
A Soulful Musical Odyssey by A.R. Rahman.
In the case of an Aanand L. Rai and Dhanush project, you can’t avoid the music. A.R. Rahman does the soundtrack, which features lyrics mainly by Irshad Kamil.
The soundtrack is a true work of art that does justice in depicting the characters’ full range of emotions. I fell in love with the title track, which Arijit Singh performs, that became a must-play in my personal collection of music. Also, we have in Shilpa Rao’s “Tere Zikr Mein”, which provides very poignant music.

Release and Legacy
Tere Ishq Mein went to the screens in India on the 28th of November, 2025, in Hindi and Tamil. In which it presents the rough reality of Delhi and the spiritual mayhem of Banaras, the film, which is a dark, intense saga that plays in your head post the credits. Into it you go for Dhanush’s unmatchable intensity, Kriti’s powerful performance, or to soak in Raman’s scores, but what you get is a very emotional roller, which is very much worth watching.
