Every student aspires to do well in a key exam, but some do require a great deal more than what is typical of preparation. They assess years of study, discipline, analytical skill, endurance, and performance under great pressure. In my experience as an engineer, I see that what makes JEE Advanced so esteemed is that solving a complex problem in a short time frame is a great test of one’s knowledge and poise.
- UPSC Civil Services Examination – India
Preliminary Exam, Main Exam, and Personality Test. The vast syllabus includes topics from history and geography to governance, economics, ethics and current affairs.
The examination is very in-depth, which requires that candidates also bring to bear their analytical writing skills on top of a wide base of knowledge; also, a long-term effort is required.
- CFA – Chartered Financial Analyst
The CFA Program is a recognised global professional certification in investment and finance. It has 3 exam levels which cover subjects like financial analysis, portfolio management, economics, ethics and investment tools.
Clear to pass each level is tough, but to finish all three requires a few years of preparation.
- USMLE – United States Medical Licensing Examination
The USMLE is an iterative assessment system that is used for medical licensing in the U.S. It evaluates medical knowledge and clinical reasoning and the ability to use concepts in patient care.
Its issue is not only the amount of medical info we have but also the fact that we must apply it precisely in clinical settings.
- California Bar Examination – USA
The California Bar Exam is a rigorous professional evaluation for would-be lawyers. It assesses legal knowledge, analytical reasoning, writing skills, and the practical application of law.
It is wide in scope and in depth of examination, which in turn makes the preparation very rigorous.
- CCIE – Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert
The CCIE is a professional advanced-level certification for network specialists. Also, in contrast to those that mostly test theoretical knowledge, the CCIE includes practical skills.
Candidates take a written assessment, which is followed by an in-depth hands-on lab exam that may go for eight hours.
- All Souls Prize Fellowship Examination – Oxford

What Makes These Exams So Difficult?

Also, we have exams like the UPSC, which put to the test a candidate’s writing skills, reasoning and range of general knowledge.
Success is a rare outcome of great intelligence alone. What is also very important is consistency, patience, time management and the fact that you keep at it when the going gets tough.

The world’s most difficult exams present very diverse academic and professional paths. If the goal is engineering, civil services, medicine, finance, law, technology, or academic research, each requires a great degree of dedication. Instead of putting forth which is the “hardest” exam, we should look at what makes each exam a challenge and what skills they require.
