“Master Peace” is a fresh Malayalam-language slice-of-life miniseries that delves into the life of a married couple facing relationship challenges. It’s a rarity in Malayalam cinema to explore dysfunctional family dynamics, and “Master Peace” admirably tackles this theme. This Disney+ Hotstar Special offers insights into the couple’s argument and the possible solutions to their marital problems.

Prologue
“Master Peace” commences with the concerned parents of Riya and Binoy discussing the couple’s recent quarrel. The parents believe their children are struggling with their relationship and take it upon themselves to intervene, without their children’s consent. This meddling worsens the situation, and both sets of parents invite themselves to their home in an attempt to find a solution.
The Root of Riya and Binoy’s Argument
Riya and Binoy’s argument revolves around several issues, primarily the reduced household income. Binoy’s business is facing financial challenges, forcing Riya to become the primary breadwinner. Her startup, a dating app inclusive of all spectrums and genders, faces delays due to branding issues. Riya also harbors suspicions of Binoy having an affair with a colleague. The quarrel escalates to the point where they damage items from their wedding and personal mementos. Their parents’ keen involvement exacerbates the situation.

Parents’ Perspectives on the Situation
Riya’s father believes she should embrace a traditional role as a housewife and obey her husband, contrary to her aspirations. He expects her to make sacrifices because her mother had to abandon her passion for singing after marriage. However, Riya is determined to make her own decisions, including pursuing classical dance.
Binoy’s mother, Anniyamma, initially expected Riya to be the ideal daughter-in-law but is disappointed by her. Anniyamma is quick to blame Riya for the marriage’s troubles and overlook Binoy’s flaws. Their parents begin discussing their own marital issues, revealing pent-up emotions. This inadvertently affects their children, particularly due to Binoy’s mother and Riya’s father projecting their own feelings of tiredness, remorse, anger, regret, and resentment.
