Many years ago, a woman beats her young son with a cane because he insists on marrying their neighbour’s daughter, Munni, who is seven years older than him. On the same day as Munni’s wedding, the boy’s head is shaved as part of a ritual. Enraged by Munni’s marriage, the boy attempts a black magic ritual to win her over. He tries to sacrifice his younger sister but ends up dying when she defends herself.

The villagers warn the boy’s mother that her son will become a Munjya – a child ghost – if further rituals are not performed. Priests try to bind the boy’s spirit to the tree near which he died. Years later, a nerdy boy named Bittu returns to his hometown for his cousin Rukku’s wedding. He learns that his father was killed trying to cut down the tree where Munjya was bound. Bittu visits the tree and is captured by Munjya. His grandmother, Aaji, tries to save him.
Who is Munjya?
Bittu’s grandmother, Aaji, uses a cane to threaten Munjya, successfully bringing Bittu home. However, Munjya imprints on Bittu and escapes the forest. On the way back, Aaji reveals to Bittu that she was Munjya’s sister and had accidentally killed him when they were children. Munjya then kills Aaji and latches onto Bittu, leaving him in shock.
Why is Munjya After Bittu?
Munjya follows Bittu home and threatens to kill his mother, Pammi, unless Bittu finds Munni for him. Bittu enlists the help of his cousins, Diljeet and Rukku, to locate Munni. Rukku provides childhood photos of Aaji and her brother, leading Bittu to realize that Munni looks just like Bela, the girl he likes. Bela turns out to be Munni’s granddaughter. Munjya, upon seeing how Munni looks now, decides he wants to marry Bela instead and demands a ritual to sacrifice her.
What Does Elvis Tell Bittu?
Bittu and Diljeet consult a religious leader named Elvis Karim Prabhakar, who explains the legend of Munjya. Elvis advises Bittu to bring Bela to his hometown and perform the ritual according to Munjya’s demands. He instructs Bittu to kill the sheep Munjya will possess before the marriage can occur.
What Happens to Munjya?
Bittu deceives Bela into coming to his hometown under the pretence of a visit. As Bittu is about to confess his feelings, Bela’s boyfriend, Kuba, arrives and tries to kiss her, inciting Munjya’s wrath. Munjya attacks Kuba, sending him to the hospital. Bittu and his cousins prepare for the ritual, getting Bela drunk to proceed. When Munjya possesses the sheep, Bittu attempts to kill it. Feeling betrayed, Munjya becomes enraged, possesses Bela, and attacks the group. Meanwhile, Bela’s spirit is trapped in the sheep’s body. Munjya then possesses Rukku’s father.

How Does Bittu Save Bela?
Feeling desperate, Bittu recalls Aaji’s teachings and finds the cane Munjya fears. He uses it to beat Munjya, who flees Rukku’s father’s body and retreats into the tree. Bittu and Bela try to escape, but Munjya uses the tree’s branches to attack them. Working together, they set the tree on fire, destroying Munjya. Bittu and Bela return home, with Bittu finally free from Munjya’s haunting. Bittu confesses his feelings, but Bela only sees him as a friend, and they decide to remain friends.
How Does Munjya End?
The tree Munjya possessed is cut down and transported to another village. The film ends with a post-credit scene where Jana brings clothes to Bhaskar, who has turned into a werewolf. During their conversation, Bhaskar mentions “Munni,” which reawakens Munjya.
