After losing her leg in 1981, Sudha Chandran went on to become a well-known actress and Bharatnatyam dancer. She made appearances in numerous Indian TV shows and motion pictures.

Based on her actual life, the Telugu film Mayuri was the start of her career. Tamil and Malayalam dubbing were done for the same movie. It was known as Naache Maayuri in Hindi. She was honoured with a Special Jury Award at the 1986 National Film Awards for her role in Mayuri.

Later, she portrayed Anand’s first wife in Hum Paanch (season 2), Chitradevi in Devam Thanda Veedu, the Tamil adaptation of Saath Nibhana Saathiya, and Yamini in Nagin 1, 2, and 3. These were only a few of her well-known roles.

She speaks English, Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada with ease.

Biography of Sudha Chandran

Sudha Chandran was born in Mumbai, India on September 27, 1965. Her family was originally from Vayalur, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. K.D. Chandran, her father, used to be an actress. She received her B.A. from Mumbai’s Mithibai College, where she graduated. After that, she earned an M.A. in economics.

Her leg was amputated in 1980 due to a sad accident. She did, however, manage to obtain a prosthetic and return to society as a Bharatnatyam dancer. She met her future husband, the assistant director, while working on the movie Mayuri shortly after her return. Love was felt right away.

Renowned dancer Sudha Chandran fled in 1994 to wed Ravi Dang. An alliance between a Tamilian (Sudha) and a Punjabi (Ravi) did not sit well with her parents. Despite their best efforts to persuade the parents, the pair eventually fled and were married.

She has a television and cinema career. She won numerous accolades over the years. Among them are the following:

  • Special Jury Award for Mayuri in 1986
  • Indian Television Academy Award in 2005
  • Asianet Television awards in 2013
  • Best Character actress for Aardram in 2013

In addition, she won a Vijay Television Award for Deivam Thandha Veedu in both 2014 and 2015. She also has Golden Petal Awards for Naagin and Naagin-2, both of which she took home in 2017.
