During her final year of high school, she decided to pursue acting, a choice that led her to be cast in Never Have I Ever. Although she initially planned to study theatre at York University in Toronto, she deferred her admission to focus on acting and later switched her major to human rights and equity studies.

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan became widely known for her portrayal of Devi Vishwakumar in the Netflix series Never Have I Ever. She was chosen from over 15,000 applicants through an open casting call organized by Mindy Kaling. Despite being new to professional acting, her audition stood out, securing her the role. Her performance was highly praised, and the show was a global hit, reaching 40 million households. Maitreyi also voiced characters in the Pixar film Turning Red and various My Little Pony projects. In addition to her acting work, she has been involved in charitable activities, including a live reading of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night to raise funds for a Chicago hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic.
