Ruhaan travels with Meera, the king’s daughter, to Rakht Ghat under the belief that he is the reincarnation of a beloved prince, Debendra Nath, who vanished from the kingdom centuries ago. According to local lore, on Durga Ashtami, a reincarnated royal will return to finally put an end to the haunting of Manjulika, a spirit believed to be trapped in the palace since her tragic death 200 years prior. Meera promises Ruhaan a substantial reward if he can help persuade her family to return to the palace and, in turn, restore peace to the village.

Ruhaan, who initially doubts the existence of a ghost, soon finds that there is much more at play. As he becomes the village’s symbol of hope, Ruhaan works to bring the legend to life and gain the trust of the villagers. Meera, however, has plans to sell the palace, hoping the proceeds will pull her family out of poverty. With Ruhaan’s presence, the family moves back into the palace, setting the stage for a series of eerie events.

While Ruhaan’s arrival stirs excitement, the arrival of Malika, a heritage preservationist, introduces new complications. Strange events at the palace lead Ruhan to question whether the ghost stories are really true. Unbeknownst to the family, three priests live secretly in the palace, these “ghosts” have chosen to terrorize the family and do not want to force them out of their secret haven.

According to tradition, Manjulika’s chamber is to be opened only on the eighth night of Durga Puja. The priests inform Ruhaan and Meera that the room was already open when they arrived years ago. Despite the lack of an obvious spirit, Ruhaan stages a ceremonial opening. When he enlists Malika’s help to feign possession, her performance unsettles everyone, adding to the mystery. But soon, the palace restoration efforts reveal another concealed chamber, suggesting that the true spirit of Manjulika might actually be behind this newly discovered door.

A real question arises: who exactly is Manjulika? Though the story suggests that either Malika or Mandira (a new person interested in buying a palace) may be involved with the ghost, the twist reveals a deeper story. She was born out of wedlock a hundred years ago, Debendranath was a legitimate heir to the throne, though he felt imprisoned by expectations about his true identity. Privately, Devendra loved dancing and often felt trapped in a body against his conscience. Unfortunately, Devendra’s sisters Manjulika and Anjulika used this knowledge against him and conspired to frame him in front of the court. Humiliated and rejected, the king ordered the execution of Devendra, who received a curse that would trap his soul in the palace forever.

The climax reveals that Malika and Mandira are reincarnations of Manjulika and Anjulika, returning not to haunt but to find redemption. On Durga Ashtami, Ruhaan tries to “burn” Debendra’s spirit once again as part of an exorcism ritual. However, the sisters recognize that their purpose is not to punish but to seek forgiveness for past actions. In acknowledging their brother’s struggle and extending compassion, they finally free Debendra’s spirit, releasing him from both his earthly and spiritual confinements.

The film closes with the royal family opting to keep the palace in memory of their ancestor’s story. Additionally, Mandira is revealed to be ACP Rathore, an undercover agent sent to investigate Rooh Baba’s supposed fraud.
