Personal Information
Shubman Gill was born on 8 September 1999, in Fazilka, Punjab, India. Coming from a sport-loving family, his father, Lakhwinder Singh Gill, is an ex-player and a farmer. He has a sister, Shahneel Gill, two years younger than him. All this support in his family has helped him mold his career in cricket, and that is why this young cricketer is seen as calm and focused when playing cricket.
Early Life and Education
Shubman Gill’s passion for cricket germinated at an early age. He began playing in his hometown and soon drew attention to himself with his great talent. Gill joined the Punjab Under-16 team at age 11 and went from strength to strength, establishing himself in all age group competitions. He was coached at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium, and his talent was fostered by coach Sanjiv Sood.

Although cricket was what he always wanted to do, Shubman Gill never missed school during his younger years. He completed schooling at the Mohali school, where he was focused more on the game than studying. When his cricket started gaining pace, he shifted totally to the game and hence became the first priority.
Career Achievements
Shubman Gill’s career in stardom took off when he played an important role in making India emerge victorious in the 2018 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. During the whole tournament, he made outstanding performances and scored match-winning 86 runs in the final against Australia. He was not only able to secure the title for India but also introduced himself in the cricketing world.

Post the World Cup, Gill was drafted into Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.So far, his IPL career has been successful as consistent performances and handling pressure in big matches have made him a consistent player for KKR.
Gill made his first One Day International for India in January 2019 against New Zealand. He later on made his Test debut against Australia in December 2020. He was quite notable when, in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, in January 2021, he played an important role for India in making history at Gabba, Brisbane. This century, in the final Test, gave him a place on a winning side and made India victorious in a famous series, marking him as one of the most reliable young openers in the team.
Shubman Gill is known to be technically sound and stable at the crease. He is one of those players who represent their team’s versatility by showcasing the adaptability in formats which includes Tests, ODIs, or T20s.
