Harshit Rana, an express pacer touted as the fastest bowler in the KKR squad, caught the attention of Nitish Rana during the Ranji Trophy selection camp for Delhi. Impressed by Harshit’s raw pace, Nitish recommended him to Abhishek Nayar, KKR’s assistant coach, who subsequently invited Harshit to attend the franchise’s trials in Mumbai. Although Harshit wasn’t selected by KKR during the mega auction, he eventually got his chance when pacer Rasikh Salam suffered an injury, paving the way for Harshit’s inclusion in the team.

This decision set the stage for an exciting contest between the two teams. The match ultimately saw Delhi Capitals emerge victorious, chasing down Kolkata Knight Riders’ score of 146/9 to win by 4 wickets.

Following a dismal run of four consecutive losses in the season, the Kolkata Knight Riders have made significant changes to their playing 11, introducing three new players after their defeat to the Gujarat Titans. Notably, this season has seen the Shreyas Iyer-led side make a total of 13 changes to their playing 11, a staggering number that surpasses all other teams in IPL 2022, highlighting the team’s ongoing quest for the right combination.

Australia’s Aaron Finch returns from injury, while Tamil Nadu’s Baba Indrajith replaces Sam Billings. In a surprise move, Harshit Rana makes his IPL debut, replacing Shivam Mavi.

ARE THEY BROTHERS ?

Despite sharing a similar surname and playing for the same franchise in IPL 2022, Nitish Rana and Harshit Rana are not related. This clarification dispels any assumptions about a familial connection between the two cricketers.

Interestingly, Harshit Rana’s rise to prominence can be attributed, in part, to Nitish Rana’s presence. The 20-year-old Harshit’s talent and potential might have gone unnoticed by the KKR think-tank had Nitish not been around to, perhaps, pave the way or provide a reference point for the young cricketer.
