Chaar Diwaari It’s a very captivating Indian web series that recently gained acclaim for being one that deals with relationships, anxieties, and social pressures. Called Chaar Diwaari, or “ four walls,” it adds the notion of the private spectre—a house that contains emotional, relational, and internal distress inside, but outside of the four walls of a house, there are also relationships; there are also spaces of opening, solidarity, and hope.

Plot and Theme
Chaar Diwaari depicts complicated emotional and social dilemmas faced by people and families that happen across 4 walls of a house, while sometimes even intersecting the events of an episode, peeling different layers of personal and relational issues that unfold around people—from love to betrayal, from loneliness to empowerment, and from despair to self-actualisation. In the narration, we often forget how we hide ourselves behind the walls of our home, then these sometimes horrible feelings escape the walls into difficulties.

Chaar Diwaari offers a gritty depiction of ‘real’ life. It also offers a subtle way to capture an ordinary life story through a series, but we can see how we can draw from our life experiences. Chaar Diwaari practices storytelling and meaningful reflections of social scenarios, and even though it is dramatisation, I would say it offers drama with real life or with meaning.

The cast and performances
Chaar Diwaari consists of a mixture of experienced and emerging actors who manage to infuse just the right mixture of authenticity and comedy into their characters. Each of the performances is multi-layered enough to make the characters relatable and engaging. The performances seemed so connected to one another, and the dialogue was so naturally delivered to give the series a very realistic feel.
