 The beginning was innocent.Girija was the youngest of three daughters of Ramdeo Rai, who was a Bhumihar landholder. When Girija was about two years old, the family moved to Varanasi/Benaras, where she was to live almost the rest of her life. She was gifted lots of love by her father. Even at an age when it was against all social norms for girls.

Husband

In 1946, Girija Devi wed a prominent businessman, Madhusudan Das. Her spouse was 20 years older than she was. However, he also had a great love for music. He assisted Girija Devi significantly. The sole vow he received from her was that she would refrain from singing in the presence of kings and nawabs. Girija likewise fulfilled her pledge. Girija mentions that her spouse was well-versed in Hindi, Urdu, and Farsi. She would engage in lengthy conversations with him about the pronunciation and delivery of words in Thumri and Dadra.

Professional Career

Her significant break came shortly after her 20th birthday. Her very first concert to be recorded aired from the Allahabad station of radio in 1949.She had emerged as a successful figure. No stopping from then on. She kept moving forward as the metal-voiced singer, leaning into thumri, steadily establishing herself among heavyweights.
