Washington Sundar, a talented Indian cricketer known for his cool under pressure, adaptability and also for his great skills as a bowling all-rounder. Born on October 5, 1999, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. His father, M. Sundar, who was also a cricket madman, got very much involved in Washington’s early training. Also, it was his dad who put the initial cricket bug in young Washington. He attended St. Bede’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, a nurturing ground for numerous aspiring cricketers in Chennai. What was once a primary for top-order batting for him grew into a very dependable off-spinning medium, which also saw him do well with the bat.
Career
Sundar broke into domestic cricket with Tamil Nadu in 2016 which saw him do very well in the Ranji Trophy. He quickly won over fans with his economical bowling, shrewd cricketing brain, and calm approach. In the 2017 IPL season he came into his own playing for Rising Pune Supergiant which saw him put in match turning performances and also to become the youngest to feature in an IPL final.

In December 2017, at the start of that same calendar year, he made his T20I debut for India against Sri Lanka and soon after became a main man in India’s limited-overs teams. His cool-headed approach in pressure situations and skills as a powerplay bowler had the cricket greats talking. Washington’s most amazing moment came in the 2021 Test series in Australia when he got into the team because of multiple injuries. In his first match in Brisbane, he scored a very important 62 and took some key wickets, which played a big role in that surprising series win by India.
Since then, Sundar has been a part of all formats, although injuries at times have disrupted his growth. In the IPL, he has played for Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad, which he has used to prove himself as a reliable economy bowler and a useful lower-order batsman.
