Introduction
Created by Manu Joseph, which stars R. Madhavan as Arya and Surveen Chawla as Shruti Decoupled, tells the story of a couple who do not fit together as they try to sort out issues in their falling apart marriage, which also includes raising a child. Arya, the talkative and odd author, and Shruti, the put-together corporate professional, decide to call it Quits, but not before many awkward dinner dates, social satire, and funny real-life references.
In the premiere, which went out in December 2021, the first season was received well for its sharp writing, relatable characters, and also for a unique look at Indian elite life. While it ended with a sense of closure, it also left fans in suspense as to what the future has in store for Arya and Shruti in their role as co-parents.
The Buzz Around Season 2
Since its launch, Decoupled has gained a dedicated audience on Netflix. Viewers who tuned in enjoyed the raw dialogue and very real take on urban disconnection. Though critics were divided, many fans looked forward to seeing what happens with the stories of Arya and Shruti play out.

However, as of mid-2025, Netflix has not put out an announcement for Season 2. There is speculation in the air, but the creators and cast have not ruled that out. In past interviews, R. Madhavan reported that the show’s fate is at the discretion of audience response and Netflix’s internal metrics, which include viewership and engagement.
Possible Reasons for the Delay
Some issues which may be causing the delay and uncertainty of Season 2:
- Creative Direction: Breaking in is the creation of Manu Joseph, who has a unique narrative style, which may ask for more time in developing a great follow-up. Also, with the show’s satirical edge, a poor second season could easily dim the original’s impact.
- Cast Availability: Both Madhavan and Surveen Chawla have had experience with many film and OTT projects. Also, it is possible that we see no new season due to scheduling issues.
- Viewer Metrics: Netflix is a big player in terms of which viewers watch what and uses that info for renewal decisions. With Decoupled doing well in India after release, it may not have had what is required for global success, which Netflix looks for in renewals.
What the Cast Has Said

R. Madhavan gave what was perhaps the most open and honest performance as Arya, which to him was conditional on his return that the story must continue to develop naturally. Also, in a social media Q&A, he brought up that fans’ love for the series is what has been very heartening and that they have talked about it, but at this point, no official word has been put out.
Surveen is also very much in an optimistic and open place regarding taking on the Shruti role again if the script does justice to the characters’ arcs.
Fan Aspirations and Moving Forward.
Will Aryam and Shruti think of going back on their divorce? What will be the story of their co-parenting? Can Arya’s radical personality adjust to post-separation life? The first season did leave that out there for us to see, which also included its incisive look at modern Indian society.
While Season 2 is still in question, we see that the show has won over audiences with its appeal and relatable quality.
Final Thoughts

As of yet, there is no official release date or confirmation for Decoupled Season 2. The show still has a large fan base, which in turn leaves the creators open to the idea of a follow-up. For the Decoupled fans, we just put out the word to keep tuned in, keep watching, and to please tell Netflix about how much we want to see more.
Until now, Decoupled has been the standout depiction of modern relationships in Indian streaming.
