Usually, any kid is asked about their dream job, and the answers are imaginative: “Doctor, astronaut, artist, or chef.” Over time, of course, these dreams change with experiences and influences. Today, there are many young dreamers who want to open cafés so they can make their passion for food and hospitality a reality. But creating a café is not only about serving coffee; it is about creating an experience, a place where stories, tastes, and cultures meet.
And the story of Campanella Café begins here. Created by the siblings Kritika and Ronit Thakur, Campanella does not merely stand for another rooftop café in Ahmedabad; it is a love letter to the warmth, simplicity, and culinary richness of Italy.
A Trip That Sparked a Vision

The Campanella idea had been simmering for years. Serving meals at their house during family functions, Kritika and Ronit enjoyed the whole ecstasy of food sharing. The real inspiration, however, struck during their trip to Capri, Italy, where the two were bewitched by tiny cozy cafés, simple hospitality, and, of course, soul food.
This trip planted the seed of a dream: bringing a pinch of Italy back to Gujarat. From ambiance to food, Campanella was to feel like an Italian getaway right in the heart of Ahmedabad.
Branding with a Story

Campanella had a story to tell right from the beginning, unlike many startups, which often wrestle with identity. The name, in itself, speaks volumes: Campanella means “a little bell” in Italian. Their logo is a bell-shaped representation of ocean waves, an ode to the Capri coastline that had been etched so deeply into the founders’ minds.
At the cafe’s entrance, there are Capri bells, authentic and laden with symbolism for goodwill and prosperity. This focus on storytelling ensures that a customer goes on a journey with the brand beyond just the food.
Turning Passion into a Business

For Kritika, the journey started with the Diploma in Culinary Arts, followed by an MA in Culinary Arts Management in the UK. During her schooling, she interned and worked part-time in various Indian restaurants abroad. Ronit, on the other hand, was more inclined toward the operational and design side of the business.
Opening the café was far from being an easy task. From sourcing ingredients of fine quality to financial matters, hiring employees, the brothers faced the usual troubles of first-time entrepreneurs. With their father’s guidance and with the help of food consultants, they overcame the obstacles and created a café that was an ideal blend of authenticity and modern comfort.
The Cafe Experience

Campanella has been set up in two Zones: An indoor-related area where one can get cozy, and an open-air rooftop for those who like the evening breeze. The décor spells an Italian style while maintaining a laid-back warmth. Customers will often describe the café as an experience rather than just a place to buy food, which indeed was the very thought of the founders.
The presence of Ronit and Kritika among the guests is something special; both William and Ronit ensure to collect their feedback and make every person feel welcome. Their philosophy is simple: every plate served should leave behind a smile.
Lessons for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
The Campanella journey offers invaluable insights to anyone dreaming of starting a business:
Seek guidance: Learn from consultants, peers in the industry, and even customers.
Stay patient: The Food business is unpredictable; success is achieved after endless persistence.
Combine passion and planning: Creativity must be complemented with execution.
According to Kritika, “Find a balance between restlessness and patience. Never settle, but also know when to wait for the right moment.” Ronit adds, “Every new day is just that, new. Success and failure don’t follow you there.” You have to give your 100% every single day.
