Ishant Sharma was born on the 2nd of September, 1988. He grew up in the national capital city of India and developed a love for cricket at a young age. Also, over the years, the name, which is perhaps also his stage name, became known, referring to his tall figure.
As of 2025, Ishant will be 36, and he turns 37 in September. In terms of height, he is around 6 ft 4 in (193 cm) — some reports say 6 ft 5 in — which makes him one of the tall Indian fast bowlers. His weight has fluctuated over the years, but for the most part, he has maintained a lean and athletic build, which is a requirement for a fast bowler.
He is a right-handed batsman and right-arm fast medium bowler. In teams, he has mainly been used as a specialist bowler.
Cricketing Career
International Debut and Rise
Ishant first came out in a Test match in May 2007 against Bangladesh as a greenhorn. Through the years, he became a mainstay in India’s Test team. Also, he appeared in ODIs and T20Is in the initial stage of his career, which, however, didn’t compare to his great run in Tests.
He has played in over 100 Tests, in which he took up to 300 wickets. Also, he has a great first-class record, which sees him get close to 500 wickets in what is a mix of domestic and international red-ball games.

In terms of ODI, he has over 100 wickets to his name, which he achieved for the Indian team. In T20 Internationals, his play was a secondary choice as India had other options they preferred in the shortest format.
Style & Strengths
Ishant is known rather for accuracy, outswinging delivery and for what he does over the course of an extended spell. In the early years, it was known that he could bowl at in excess of 150 km/h; later on, he changed his style to what best used his height advantage, got the ball to move off the seam and also to put it under more control. At times, he would go for long periods, almost marathonesque in his endurance in terms of overs bowled, that we saw in Test cricket.
He also featured in India’s main teams at major tournaments and was a member of the team that won the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. Also, he has been presented with the Arjuna Award for his great contribution to Indian cricket.
Domestic & IPL Journey
In the Indian domestic circuit, which includes the Ranji Trophy and the like, he is stuck to his home state of Delhi.
In 2025 at the IPL auction, he was bought by the Gujarat Titans for ₹75 lakh. His past IPL salary includes higher prices in earlier years.
Net Worth & Income in 2025
While we cannot get an exact number for cricketers’ net worth out, we also see that in 2025, Ishant Sharma did do between $15 and $20 million or so, which is at a rough equal of ₹110 150 crores, which also includes what he gets from brand deals, investments, and income, which is not reported.

- He derives income from multiple sources: He is into many income streams.
- Match and player pay from the BCCI for domestic and international games.
- Annual or seasonal contracts in IPL
- Brand endorsements, sponsorships, and promotional deals
- Other commercial projects and investments in real estate.
Some reports also put out that his net worth may, in fact, be greater (up to $25 million), which is a result of factors like real estate, endorsement deals, and the acquisition of assets over the years. While that is the case, the more often reported estimate is of the order of ₹110 crore, USD 15 million.
In 2025, his IPL contract will see him earn a total of ₹75 lakh, but it’s a small number compared to what top players get.
