Introduction
Shivam Dube has put himself in the elite group of talented all-rounders in Indian cricket. Born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, on 26 June 1993, Dube is a left-hand batter and right-arm medium-pace bowler. At the age of 33, his journey is a very inspiring one, which includes that his cricket career was at a standstill during his teen years, which was a result of financial issues and fitness problems. But through his determination and hard work, he came back to professional cricket to eventually win the T20 World Cup twice.
For me, Dube’s is the best relatable story in modern Indian cricket. What he does to turn around failure into achievement makes his success a much more meaningful story than what we see in his stats.
Early Life and Cricket Journey
Dube, at a young age, developed a passion for cricket, which he displayed as a very promising bowler. Then at 14, he had to leave the sport due to financial issues and health. For almost five years, he was away from cricket, which had become his life. Upon his return, he spent time getting back into the game and reestablishing himself.

In his return to play, which was via the domestic cricket structure of Mumbai, he gained momentum. In the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy season, he scored 632 runs in eight matches, which included two centuries; he also took 23 wickets. It didn’t take long before his all-round performance made him a player to watch.
IPL Career and Rise with CSK
Dube joined the IPL in 2019 with Royal Challengers Bangalore, which is a different chapter in his career, as he later did for Rajasthan Royals. In 2022, he had a turnaround in his career, which came about after he joined Chennai Super Kings.
In the CSK scheme of things, Dube grew to be a great middle-order batter, which also saw him do very well against spin. In his first year with CSK, he scored 289 runs, then in 2023 put up 418 and in 2024 scored 396. His performances made him one of the key middle-order players for the franchise.
His sound six-hitting has been his greatest strength. To see Dube go after spinners is a pleasure, which is also very rare; if he gets his timing right, even good deliveries go for six.
International Career
Dube came into the T20I scene for India against Bangladesh in Nov 2019. Early in his international career, he was inconsistent, but what he did in domestic cricket and the IPL got him a regular spot in India’s T20 plans.
In the 2024 T20 World Cup, which India won, he had his great breakthrough. In the final against South Africa, which saw India lift the trophy, he scored a useful 27 off 16 balls.

In 2026, Dube added another great chapter to his career. India came in as defending champions, and he was included as a key all-round option.
In a match against the Netherlands, he put in a brilliant performance, which saw him score 66 runs in just 31 balls, which also included four fours and six sixes. Also, he did well with the ball and was named Man of the Match.
In the semifinal against England, Dube put in a man-of-the-match performance, which saw him score 43 off 25 balls as India posted 253/7 and defeated England by 7 runs.

In the final against New Zealand in Ahmedabad, it was a very special moment. India scored 255/5, of which Dube did not get out, and he scored 26 from only 8 balls that included 3 fours and 2 sixes. In the end, India won by 96 runs, and they also successfully defended the T20 World Cup title.
Legacy and Playing Style
Dube’s transformation from the time he left cricket as a young man to his success as a 2 time World Cup winner is a study in perseverance. Also, he is known for great hitting power, the ability to attack spin and useful medium-pace bowling.
At present in his career, Shivam Dube is not what you may call a big hitter. He has grown into a T20 specialist who is able to turn around a match in a few overs and is an asset to India’s white-ball cricket team.
