Fortunately, Railways offers flexible cancellation policies for Tatkal tickets. CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE REFUND:
Passengers holding confirmed Tatkal tickets can claim refunds under specific circumstances. If the train is delayed by over three hours from its originating station, passengers can cancel their tickets and file a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) to receive a refund, with only clerical charges deducted. Additionally, if the train’s route is altered and the passenger prefers not to travel on the revised route, they can also cancel their ticket and claim a refund. These refund policies offer flexibility and financial protection to passengers affected by delays or route changes, ensuring a hassle-free travel experience.
If a Party/Family Tatkal ticket has both confirmed and waiting list passengers, a full refund can be obtained by canceling the entire ticket, provided it’s done at least 6 hours before the train’s departure.

REFUND EVEN IF THE WAITING TICKET IS CANCELLED:
In cases where a waiting Tatkal ticket remains unconfirmed, Railways automatically cancels it, initiating a refund process that typically takes 3-4 days. While the majority of the ticket amount is refunded, a booking charge, approximately 10% of the ticket price (varying by train and class), is deducted. This charge is retained by Railways, and the remaining amount is credited back to the passenger.
