Shah Rukh Khan, as he is popularly known as ‘King Khan,’ has not only been lauded for his acting strokes but also for offering insightful advice on living life to actors. Parineeti Chopra is also one of those actors who would say she got an important lesson through a piece of advice on acting from King Khan himself.
In a past interview with Sidharth Malhotra, Parineeti recounted an interaction with Shah Rukh Khan at a party they attended together. During their conversation, SRK advised her not to be “too natural” on screen, offering a compelling rationale for this perspective.

According to Parineeti, Shah Rukh suggested that it is often the case that only realism is not enough to portray a character’s psyche or feelings. Because, even though an actor really feels a scene, it may not be convincingly portrayed on screen. Hence, to convey the nuance of what might be said by the audience, sometimes it should be mechanistically expressed or exaggerated.
This was the factor that turned a new leaf in Parineeti’s approach to acting. She confessed that she had always thought this: “Oh yes, you do it just casual and natural, and that’s it.” But Shah Rukh changed this view of hers and told her how complicated it can be-the situation is even more serious in films, as actors have to make their expressions much more exaggerated to reach the people watching.

Similar to this, veteran actor and acting coach Anupam Kher has been there for Parineeti when he counseled that pure emotion and some touching dramatization need to be sketched into balance. She learned from these lessons that beyond actual performance, cinema acting requires something that is increased and extreme for the screen. Parineeti’s last release was Amar Singh Chamkila.
