Plot Summary
The movie tells the story of Ahmed (Vikrant Massey) and Jyoti (Sanya Malhotra), belonging to a different religion who run away as they try to escape the wrath of their kin. Seeking protection under the court’s special program for interfaith and inter-caste couples, they find refuge in a safe house, known as the ‘Love Hostel.’ However, their quest for happiness is short-lived as they become the target of Dagar (Bobby Deol), a relentless mercenary hired to restore the so-called honor of Jyoti’s influential family.
As Ahmed and Jyoti try to escape Dagar’s wrath, their tale is a fierce struggle for survival against the repressive social forces who think that their love is obscene.
The Climax and Ending Explained
The film finishes off in a tragic and shocking way with the hopes of freedom for Ahmed and Jyoti ruthlessly dashed. Dagar is mercilessly slaughtering anyone who opposes him in the second half of the film, pushing them into a corner.
Only when Jyoti and Ahmed manage to escape is Dagar ruthlessly murdered in cold blood by Ahmed, leaving Jyoti traumatized. Other plans are in store by destiny, though. With sorrow and rage, Jyoti murders Dagar. In an attempt to bring an end to the cycle of violence and oppression, she chooses not to be a part of it. She murders Dagar, silencing him for good.
While Jyoti exists, she is emotionally and psychologically traumatized. The affection between Ahmed and her fought so hard to hold on to is ultimately snuffed out for them by the cold hand of a society unwilling to change. The movie ends in jerky silence, speaking of the bloody cost of challenging deep-seated prejudices.
